As I said, now that you know the different types of snowboard and boots, you now need to
know what different types of snowboard bindings that are available. Like snowboards there are two main
types of bindings, Strap bindings and Step In bindings.
If you have never snowboarded before and are looking for the perfect guide before you hit the slopes. Chris Kohut takes you through
everything you need to know in his book Snowboarding For Beginners.
Strap bindings are used by most people who are beginning to start snowboarding. They are often
attached to the board when you rent your board on holidays. Strap in bindings are the bindings
that I use when I go snowboarding. They have a high back plate to support your ankle, they act as support
similar to the back of a ski boot. Then there are two straps that click into place to keep
you and your boot firmly in place. These should be tied tightly around your boot as it makes it
more easy to maneuver and control the board when turning. These bindings are used with soft boots.
Snowboarders with hard boots will use Strap In bindings with a higher back plate. to give them
even more control of the board.

Everytime you have to adjust your Strap In bindings you have to sit and bend down to
tighten them. This can get quite frustrating as strap ins can become loose, if the
binding is of poor quality or old. Because of this Step In bindings were created. With Step In
bindings you just click your boots into the board. Again this type of binding is used in
conjunction with soft boots.
There are two other bindings to be aware of. Flow snowboarding binding straps try to combine Strap in and Step in bindings.
These are becoming more popular. the other is Plate snowboard binding, this is used mostly with hard boots
on alpine boards.
