So as I said the snowboard size can vary, when selecting a snowboard use these guidelines: The length of a board should come up to the chin of the person. There are some exceptions though.
  • Heavier people should pick a board that is longer and is less flexible.

  • If you are a light person the board should be a little shorter and be more flexible

  • And width:
  • The general key to keep in mind regarding the width of your snowboard, is to ensure your feet do not hang over the edge. This makes it more difficult to turn. Bigger feet need wider boards.

  • There are two different types of snowboard, Freestyle/Freeriding and Alpine. Freestyle/Freeriding are the most common boards. These boards have twin tips, this means that each end of the board is the same shape. These boards are shorter and less stiff.

The other board is an Alpine board, these boards are longer than the freestyle boards and are stiffer. The difference can be seen here. There are many deferent brands of snowboards, the main brands include:
  • Burton
  • Solomon
  • Forum
  • Palmer
  • Ride
  • K2 Snowboards

  • When selecting a board to rent or buy, find one that suits your personality. Don't feel pressurised to get the most expensive as this is not always the best guide. Prices vary from $100 to $700. Don't be fooled by expensive boards when a cheaper board would suit your needs.
